I work as an atmospheric scientist in Glasgow, mainly on air pollution projects around the world (recently UK, Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Qatar). I am a keen data scientist (R and Python) and GIS nerd. My interest in data leads me to the open data initiative and I find myself continually frustrated at the lack of progress with the idea in the UK and more specifically in Scotland. I think we still have a significant issue in Scotland with data that has huge potential for societal and commercial value being locked up in the public vaults. More open data means more highly skilled, well paid jobs which our economy badly needs and I'm well up for helping to change things.
