Frontiers of Openness
Knowledge as Critical Digital Infrastructure With a view to proposing public policy responses to this, the Wikimedia Foundation and the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF) are working on a joint initiative to rethink open knowledge as critical digital infrastructure (CDI). Our goal is to ensure that digital knowledge commons — the shared, publicly accessible systems that allow information to be freely and openly created and distributed — receive the same strategic attention and investment, and benefit from strong governance, as essential public services such as water or electricity. SkyCommons Observatory The SkyCommons Observatory was created by the Open Knowledge Foundation under its Frontier of Openness umbrella, as a prototype to map power, expose risks, and advance public-interest principles, such as openness, interoperability, and accountability, into the technical, legal, and policy frameworks that govern our SkyCommons. It starts with locally produced research on LEO infrastructure, public information, openly available datasets, accessible narratives and visualisation tools. Brain Commons / BCI Open Stack
