Saw in a recent webinar that the Open Government Partnership has launched an Open Algorithms Network. They have a registration form along with a longer description on the webpage.

From the website: “The Open Algorithms Network (OAN) is a global peer network for government officials seeking to make algorithms and AI used in public decision-making more transparent, accountable, and trustworthy. Coordinated by the Open Government Partnership, the network connects civil servants and global experts implementing algorithmic transparency and accountability reforms, creating spaces for practical peer learning, problem-solving, and community capacity building.”

As a practitioner, this is very interesting! However, it seems membership is limited to “government representatives.”

Hopefully, there’s a place for industry, non-profits, academia, and practitioners like myself to get involved in the conversation.

I understand the instinct to limit it to government, as otherwise, vendors will overrun these forums, but hopefully, OGP eventually produces a base Open Algorithm specification practitioners can use.

By then, they can use standard procedures like creating a Working Group ala W3C, IETF, etc.
