Who Is Using CKAN for Enterprise Data and Knowledge Management?

,

@yoanapopova hosted another excellent installment of CKAN Monthly Live on Wednesday, inviting Wolfgang Clauss of Ondics GmbH to share several CKAN extensions he has been developing. These included tools for subscribing to content updates, previewing large files, using AI to summarize and search documents, and automating CKAN workflows with n8n.

Wolfgang has a knack for developing CKAN for really interesting use cases (at last month’s CKAN Monthly Live, he demoed a CKAN repository built to manage sheet music!). This time, the extensions he showcased were developed for a CKAN-powered enterprise knowledge management system built on CKAN.

I found myself thinking about this through the rest of the day and wanted to reach out here to see who else across the community has used - or is exploring the use of - CKAN as an enterprise management solution? Specifically:

  • What led you to choosing CKAN for this purpose?
  • Are there extensions, configurations, or practices that others considering a similar application should know about?
  • What questions would you find it useful to explore with others pursuing similar applications of CKAN?

The purpose of the Communities of Practice subcategory is to support folks working across various communities of practice (CoPs) in making connections, sharing resources, and collaboratively working through shared challenges. We’ve set up tags for folks to use to opt in or signal various CoPs - I am adding EDM for enterprise data management, and look forward to seeing where this might lead.
