Why does Apple need our finger prints?

I believe that the Iphones should not have thumb scanners.This is because Apple will have our fingerprints in their system. If a hacker were to get into their database or hack them, all of our info could be sold. Hackers can gain unauthorised access to our information and may use it to frame us. Why should we give Apple our finger prints if they want it they should, at least give us a reason. We also use it to buy apps or download them, meaning Apple has the power to buy anything on our phones. I would recommend that they switch to pattern

Apple does not actually store your fingerprint in a way that can be hacked or utilized for other purposes beyond TouchID authentication.
