Open Data Services Co-operative is hiring!

Our co-operative aims to make open data useful, usable and in-use. We like to work with projects that combine innovation and engagement to deliver sustainable social impact with open data. We work with transparency initiatives such as Open Contracting, 360 Giving, Beneficial Ownership and International Aid Transparency and provide tools and technical assistance to organisations across the world.

To strengthen our work, we’re looking for people to join our interdisciplinary team, working with data publishers and users. You will work with a wide variety of organisations to help them publish and use open data using specific open data standards.

We are a workers co-operative. After a probationary period, workers have the right to become members of the co-op, jointly owning and running the business.

That sounds awesome! It’s a shame that citizens of the EU can’t apply. I’ve noticed the following in the job description:

As we are a remote working organisation we will consider applications from anywhere in the UK. You must have the right to live and work in the UK.

As explained in gov.uk, as a consequence of Brexit, EU citizens have a right to work and live in the UK only if they were already living there by December 31st, 2020, as per the EU Settlement Scheme.

I’m afraid so. I guess it’s 2 things; outside pandemics, there was a decent amount of in-person meetings with the co-op members and clients / people involved in projects. We are still being careful to protect staff and aren’t going back to that yet, but we hope to one day! Also as a small organisation we don’t have the resources to deal with all the international laws. We may not always like UK immigration law but it is what it is. We may be in a position to review our approach one day but for now UK only - sorry.
