Data of Election result is available at http://eci.nic.in/eci_main1/ElectionStatistics.aspx; Detailed Results of latest elections are available in xls format i.e http://eci.nic.in/eci_main/StatisticalReports/candidatewise/LS-2014_ElectionResult.xlsx and http://eci.nic.in/eci_main1/GE2014/Party_Contested_GE_2014.xlsx Real time Election Result is available also when actual election is going on and can be accessed through http://eciresults.nic.in/. API is also available for real time election result. Many web/mobile app has been developed using the API of http://eciresults.nic.in/. Data related to elections is also available on Data Portal at Open Government Data (OGD) Platform India. Details include List of Participating Political Parties, List of Successful Candidates, Performance of Political Parties, Candidate Data Summary, Electors Data Summary, Women Candidates, Constituency Data Summary. Detailed Results Data available on OGD India is completely free and open for reuse and further studies and research. All the data published on Open Government Data Platform India are Open and comes under the Government Open Data License (GODL), which can be accessed at https://data.gov.in/sites/default/files/Gazette_Notification_OGDL.pdf. All the data are totally free to use, reuse and redistribute for all lawful commercial and non-commercial purposes.

Dear Akilesh,

Thank you so much for the detailed account on elections data in India! As a first question I’d ask, is elections data also available on polling station level. This year GODI only assessed data at polling station level. We are aware that some countries cannot provide this level of detail and are happy to acknowledge this in our reviewer comments. We will talk with our partners at the National Democratic Institute how to deal with this in the future.

In the meantime, can you tell me if polling station data is provided in India? If not, can you give me background why? That’s very helpful for us to improve this category

Have you been able to find out if polling station data is provided? If so, we can accept your proposed changes. If not, we unfortunately have to leave the result as it is.

But we are happy to add a note in our results to explain to everyone why there is no polling station level data (e.g. is there law forbidding to publish this data, etc.) That’s very useful for us too and helps refining this category in the future
