I think that, in a way, we already do donate data when we contribute content to Wikipedia, Open Street Map or other similar crowdsourcing projects. The same when you contribute code to open source projects.
Perhaps even when we post on forums and social media we could say we are donating data. So it’s even more important to use open platforms instead of internet giants – would you rather donate data to them or to the commons / to the public domain? That’s one more reason to use open platforms like Mastodon and Diaspora instead.
